Higher Education Institutions in Finland

The higher education system in Finland consists of universities and polytechnics (Universities of Applied Sciences). The universities rely on the connection between research and teaching. Their basic purpose is to perform scientific research and to provide higher education connected with it. Students at universities may take a lower (Bachelor's) or higher (Master's) academic degree and also academic further education, consisting of licentiate and doctoral degree. Universities also arrange further education and open university teaching.
The polytechnics are usually regional higher education institutions which provide instruction in subjects from several sectors, and which emphasize a connection with working life. The degrees they provide are Bachelor's degrees with a professional emphasis.
There are universities and polytechnics all over Finland, and the ultimate aim is to ensure that all prospective students have equal opportunities for study, regardless of where they live.

Entrance exam for Bachelor level

Participating in an entrance examination is required for a Bachelor's degree. When choosing your study place you should always give preference to educational institutions that organize their entrance exams in Nepal.
The FINNIPS (Finnish Network for International Programmes: Entrance Examinations outside Finland) offers the mosth complete information on entrance examinations organized abroad.
Please note that a Schengen visa will not be issued for the purpose of attending entrance examinations in Finland.

After being selected to study in a Finnish educational institution, students must apply for a student's residence permit as soon as possible.
The Embassy will only take new student residence permit applications by appointment. Please see the Residence Permits section for all the necessary information on how to make your residence permit application.
The decision on a residence permit application is done by the Finnish Immigration Service in Finland.
